Exciting opportunity in Eastern Africa: Ophthalmologist needed for project in Mozambique

The Norwegian Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted (NABP) is looking for an ophthalmologist / project coordinator for the Eye Health Project in Chimoio, Manica province, Mozambique, which has been running since 1992.

In addition to ophthalmological consultations, treatment and surgery the post also requires basic accounting, reporting and data collection, coordination meetings with eye health NGO community, hospital administration and Mozambiquan health authorities on different levels, communication with NABP main office (Oslo), as well as participation in, and co-organizing of, outreach activities and campaigns, and import of medication and hospital equipment including logistical assistance.

Core qualifications needed:

  • Ophthalmological surgery (SICS and phaco)
  • People skills / good communicator
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft excel and word, as well as e-mail, and Zoom / Teams / Google meet
  • English language

Advantageous:

  • Portuguese or Spanish language

The successful candidate will work in Manica Provincial Hospital’s Ophthalmology department. The hospital and NABP residence are both located in Chimoio.

The residence is comfortable and spacious, and includes cleaning service, 24-hours security guard, and a car (with a driver if requested). Rent is covered by NABP.

The posting is a family duty station, with international kindergartens and schools available.

The monthly salary will match the experience of the applicant.

The initial contract will last until the end of 2024, with the possibility of extension.

The maximum age is 55 years old.
